The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or sharp acceleration.
In some cases, the transfer of mass in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to a force up to three times greater than the other. This can result in significant chassis twisting or deformation and torsion of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
