The car’s chassis is the part of the vehicle that is subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to forces up to three times greater than the other. This causes significant chassis flex or deformation and torsion of the body, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and flex during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
