The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer during cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to as much as three times greater force than the other. This can result in significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
