The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer through a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to forces up to three times greater than the other. This can result in significant twisting and deformation of the chassis or bodywork, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
