The car chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to 3 times greater force than the other. This can result in significant chassis twisting or body deformation.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer, consequently reducing tyre grip.
