A vehicle’s chassis is one of its most highly stressed components, as it is affected by body mass transfers during fast cornering, heavy braking and acceleration.
When cornering, the load on one side of the vehicle can be up to three times greater than on the other. This causes the chassis or body to bend and twist, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis bending and twisting while driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
