A vehicle’s chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly pronounced due to the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In certain situations, weight transfer when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
