The vehicle chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of the vehicle body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to a force up to three times greater than the other. This causes significant chassis twisting or body deformation, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
