The vehicle chassis is one of the most heavily loaded parts of a car, as it is affected by body mass transfer during fast cornering, heavy braking and intensive acceleration.
When cornering, mass transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can cause considerable chassis flex, or deformation and torsion of the body, resulting in a loss of tyre grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing during cornering can cause unwanted driving characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
