The vehicle chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly affected by the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, the transfer of weight while cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can cause excessive chassis flex, or deformation and twisting of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
