A car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or intensive acceleration.
In some cases, the transfer of mass during cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times greater force than the other. This can result in significant chassis flex, deformation and body twisting, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
