The vehicle body is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident when the body’s weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
During weight transfer in a corner, one side of the vehicle can be subjected to forces up to three times greater than the other. This can result in significant bending and twisting of the chassis, or deformation of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
