The vehicle chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest stress during driving. During fast cornering, heavy braking or sudden acceleration, the weight of the vehicle body is redistributed and places stress on the chassis.
In certain situations, the redistribution of weight in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to 3 times more than the other. This causes significant chassis flexing, or deformation and torsion of the vehicle body, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing while driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
