The vehicle chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is mainly caused by the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When weight is transferred in a corner, one side of the vehicle can be subjected to a force up to three times greater than the other. This causes significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or bodywork, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
