The vehicle’s chassis is a part that is often subjected to the greatest loads due to driving conditions. This is particularly evident when the body’s weight is transferred while driving quickly through corners, braking hard or accelerating.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to forces up to three times greater than the other side. This causes significant chassis flex or body deformation, which can result in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing when driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
