The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly evident when the body weight shifts during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, the force on one side of the vehicle can be up to three times greater than on the other. This causes significant chassis flex, or deformation and torsional twisting of the body, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flex during cornering can cause unwanted handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
