The car’s chassis is the part that is most affected by the driver’s driving style. This is particularly evident when the body’s weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, transferring weight while cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This causes considerable chassis flex, or deformation and torsion of the body, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
