The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest stress while driving. This is mainly due to the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This can result in significant chassis flex and body deformation, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis flex and deformation when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
