The car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to as much as three times more force than the other. This results in greater chassis twisting and body deformation, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis twisting and deformation during cornering can cause undesirable driving characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
