The car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is especially pronounced when the body’s weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This results in significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
