A car’s chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to as much as three times more force than the other. This causes significant chassis flex, deformation and twisting of the body, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting in corners can lead to poorer handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
