The vehicle chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking and acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer during cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to as much as three times more force than the other. This causes significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or bodywork, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
