The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, the transfer of mass when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This causes severe twisting and deformation of the chassis or body, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis when cornering can cause unwanted handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
