The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to as much as three times more force than the other. This results in significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or bodywork, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
