The vehicle chassis is one of the most heavily loaded parts of the car, as it is affected by the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking and acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to 3 times more than the other. This can lead to considerable twisting and deformation of the chassis or bodywork, consequently resulting in poorer tyre grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable driving characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
