The car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or sudden acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can result in significant chassis flex, body deformation and twisting, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting in corners can cause unwanted handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
