The car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest stress during dynamic driving. High loads occur mainly due to the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking and acceleration.
When cornering, the transfer of weight to one side of the vehicle can result in a force up to three times greater than on the other side. This causes the chassis or body shell to twist and deform, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
