The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
In some cases, the transfer of mass during cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to a force up to three times greater than the other. The result is excessive chassis flex, or deformation and torsion of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and flexing of the chassis during cornering can cause undesirable driving characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
