The vehicle chassis is exposed to significant loads while driving, particularly due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking and acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in twisting and deformation of the body or chassis, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis flex while driving through corners can also cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer. The rear torsion bar is designed to provide additional chassis reinforcement and limit this deformation.
