The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of bodywork weight during fast cornering, heavy braking and acceleration.
In certain cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to a force up to three times greater than the other. This can result in significant bending and twisting of the chassis or bodywork, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Bending and twisting of the chassis while driving through corners can cause undesirable driving characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
