The vehicle chassis is the part most heavily loaded by the driver’s driving. This is particularly evident when the body’s weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer during cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This causes significant bending, deformation and twisting of the body, which can lead to the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting when driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
