The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. These loads are mainly caused by the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking and hard acceleration.
When driving through a corner, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to loads up to three times greater than the other. This can result in significant bending and torsional deformation of the chassis, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis bending and twisting while driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
