The car’s chassis is the part of the vehicle subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is mainly caused by the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, hard braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to as much as three times more force than the other. The result is significant chassis flex, body deformation and torsional loads, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flex during cornering can cause undesirable driving characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
