The vehicle’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in significant chassis flex, deformation and torsional body twisting, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting in a corner can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
