A car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly pronounced due to the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to three times more force than the other. This can result in significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
