The car body is the part of the vehicle that is subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of the body’s mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to 3 times more than the other. This can result in considerable chassis flex and deformation, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis flex and deformation when driving through corners can also cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
