The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly noticeable when the body’s weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in greater body flex and deformation, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flex during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
