The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. When cornering quickly, braking hard or accelerating, the loads are primarily affected by the transfer of body mass.
When cornering, one side of the vehicle can be loaded up to three times more than the other. This causes the chassis to flex, resulting in deformation and torsional twisting of the body, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
