The vehicle’s chassis or body is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of the vehicle body’s mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
When cornering, mass transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in substantial deformation and twisting of the chassis, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting in corners can cause undesirable driving characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
