A car’s chassis is the part of the vehicle subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to 3 times more heavily than the other. This can result in considerable bending and twisting of the chassis or deformation of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
