The vehicle chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest stresses while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or sudden acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can result in greater twisting and bending of the chassis and deformation of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
