The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest stress while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can result in significant deformation and flexing of the chassis or bodywork, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and flexing of the chassis during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
