A car’s chassis is the part exposed to the greatest loads due to driving conditions. This is particularly evident from the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
In certain cases, weight transfer when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This can result in considerable chassis flex and body deformation, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flex during cornering can cause unwanted handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
