The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. It is particularly stressed by the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, mass transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This can result in significant chassis flex as well as twisting and deformation of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable driving characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
