The vehicle chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is mainly due to the transfer of the body’s mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to 3 times greater force than the other. This can cause significant chassis flex or deformation and torsion of the body, resulting in a loss of tyre grip.
Chassis deformation and flex during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
