A car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
With lateral loads, one side of the vehicle can experience up to three times more force than the other. This can result in significant chassis flex as well as deformation and twisting of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
