The vehicle’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly noticeable when the body’s weight is transferred while driving quickly through corners, braking hard or accelerating.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can result in significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis when driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
