The vehicle chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. These loads are mainly caused by the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking and intense acceleration.
When cornering, the force on one side of the vehicle can be up to three times greater than on the other. This can cause significant twisting and deformation of the chassis or bodywork, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Twisting and deformation of the chassis when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
