A car’s chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads as a result of the driver’s actions. This is particularly pronounced when the body’s weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or intensive acceleration.

In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to as much as three times more force than the other. This causes significant twisting and deformation of the chassis or bodywork, resulting in the tyres losing grip.

Chassis deformation and twisting while cornering can cause unwanted handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
