The vehicle’s chassis is exposed to the greatest loads due to the driver’s driving style, particularly because of the transfer of the body’s mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, the transfer of mass through a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to a force up to three times greater than the other. This causes significant twisting of the chassis or deformation of the body, which can result in the tyres losing grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
